Beqaa Valley. This great fertile plateau, 176km long and 15km wide was in times past a route for caravans between north Syria and Palestine. Traces can still be seen of the many peoples who have passed this way. Some merely came through- Egyptians, Hittites, Persians, and crusading Franks. Others lingered-the Greeks, Romans and Byzantine-while some, like the Arabs, settled down. |
