Syria

Syria is the world’s richest resource in terms of number, variety and scientific interest of its archaeological remains. Those treasures are in a country that is rich with beautiful landscapes and enjoys with a strategic location, being a crossroad between East & West. Imagine the Mediterranean on one side, the desert and the Euphrates on the other, which made it frontiers and battlegrounds, which created the following treasures.

Most interesting cities in Syria are Damascus, Apamea, Arwad, Bosra, Hama, Homs, Husn, Maaloula and Sydnia.

Syria is a country of 185,180 square kilometers, consisting of a coastal zone divided by narrow double mountain range from large eastern region that includes various mountain ranges, large desert regions, and Euphrates River basin. Its population is approximately 13 million, including about 250,000 Palestinian refugees. Growth rate estimated at about 3.7 percent per year, one of the worlds highest.

Syria is one of the full enrollments in compulsory tuition-free public schools in the region. School system consists of six years of primary, three years of lower secondary, and three years of upper secondary education. Four major universities and various teacher-training and vocational institutes, all government owned and operated. Adult literacy rate estimated at over 60 percent. Official language is Arabic, mother tongue of about 90 percent of population, understood by most others. Kurdish (Kirmanji), Armenian, Turkic, and Syriac spoken by minorities; French and English spoken by educated elites in major urban areas.
